All Sugarcane Trading Co rugs are handwoven from textile waste.
This means less impact on the environment from waste going into landfill, or being burnt. The weavers get offcuts from the textile and garment manufacturing industry in India.
They work mostly with pure 100% cotton, including offcuts from the making of jeans. The varying colours from the denim give our Leela, Ananya & Nalini rugs their deep range of blue hues.
The offcuts are cut into strips and then skillfully deconstructed by hand to separate the various coloured threads. These are then joined into the long yarns used in the weaving process.
Sometimes the yards recovered from the textile waste are woven with jute to produce rugs such as our Rajika and Amaya rugs.
